Bald Tires

Bald tires screeching to a halt
Skidding to a stop not your fault
Treads worn off … rubber’s bare
Time to buy … a brand new pair
Hard to find what pleases you
Lately … not too hard to do
Short term memory … yahoo
Now … motoring … along
Cronies screeching to a halt
Couldn’t be the tread … oops
Your … fault!

Sparring

Misunderstanding … lock ‘n key
Done nothing wrong … said to me
Short term memory … no fun
You were gone … on the run
Couldn’t find you … far or near
Looked … so long … dreadful fear
Hard to believe … only last year!
Lady Blue … angry … mean
Wants a boss … to intervene
No one … understands
Wants answers … on demand
Lucid Lucy … saves the day
Even she’s … in disarray
Memory problems there too
But … refreshing break from
L.A.D.Y. B.L.U.E.
On we go … from here to there
You’re clueless … unaware
Why you are … where you are
Bracing … for another … spar.

Another … fall!

Arriving to visit … another …  fall?
Gosh … you say … hurts not at all
You’re tough … we’d all agree
Then … a grimace … peeking … I see
Swollen and painful … needs attention
Splint it … you have apprehension
You forget … why … hurts at all
Mom … you’ve had … a hard fall
Your wrist … swollen … misery
Please keep it still … less pain … remedy
Soon an x-ray … then on to E.R.
So much waiting … you’re patient by far
Finally confirmed … yep … it’s broke
Hard to believe … you say …not a joke
Temporary cast … put on
A  sling … you want it … gone
On the way home … you  explode
This thing on my arm … throw to the road
Again we discuss … how, when and why
Really … not telling a lie.

Second fall in a month … had her slippers on and still … topsy-turvy … permanent cast put on 2 days later … REd cast … awesome … Mom just wants it off!  It’s going to be a l.o.n.g. six weeks!

worried for a friend

You’re worried  …for a friend
She fell … you saw it …then
For her … you have a tearful
You’re consumed …fearful
You say …they didn’t … move fast
You want …to scold …alas
She’s now …slumbering in her bed
Silent sighs …pillow  her head
No broken bones …the nurses said
She tried to walk …had to try
Those days   …have gone by
But  still  she thinks it’s what …to do
Her loss of memory …affects …you!

Shoo

I’m a grown woman …you say
Can’t … go out  alone!  Why? No way!
They have rules …must be … obeyed
Keep you safe …from what? you say
From yourself …I speak in my head
From running away …fear ‘n dread
Then you stop … turn to me
A defiant look … indubitably
I’m a grown woman …I say
You can’t go …alone! No way!
Safe from harm …you’ll be
No more fear ’n dread …for me
Then I turn and look …at you
Short term memory …please
Take this and …SHOO!

TODAY’S IT

Today’s IT
Tomorrow’s too late
Yesterday’s gone
Just …couldn’t wait
Short term memories
Out the door
Around the corner
Nevermore.

Fly The Coop

They …fly the coop …as Dad would say
Thoughts …blown asunder
Could be …when storms are brewing
Your thoughts …are the thunder
Frustrating …thoughts you share
Fade away …life’s not fair!
Short term memory …fly soon
Fly the coop …SONIC BOOM!

Alzheimer’s Trance

I try to explain things
Mixed up in your head
I might as well bang
My head on the bed.

Your web of confusion
Gives you …no chance
To correct details
From Alzheimer’s trance.

Short term memory
Gets in your way
You forget what I say
No …help …today.

Changing Channels

You come agitated…a bit
Seems you’re watching TV
You don’t understand
Lots of dying…you see.

We talk about it
You don’t have a clue
It makes no sense
It bothers you.

So switching the channels
Will help…I’m sure
And…your short term memory
Will kick in…the cure!

Mom loves TV…has one in her room and LOVES TO CHANGE CHANNELS AND WATCH STORIES…She enjoys the oldies..Andy Griffith…Mash…The Golden Girls etc. So when the news comes on and the stories tell about awful happenings, it agitates her…maybe I need to kid proof the TV?
