Smiles of Angels

My heart’s full, yet grieving today
Another friend … passed away
A short friendship … it’s true
None the less, friends true blue
Amidst life … to and fro
Some smile… kindness bestowed
Like the winds … top hills of snow
Replenishes … fields … below
So  I say …  with loving heart
Turn  frowns  … upside down
Always give your smile away
You never know …come what may
God sends Angels/ friends our way.

A guiding star

Happier than you’ve ever been
Heavenly days, with Jesus your friend
Many people, you led His way
It’s all in your … resume’
Many hearts, happiness abounds
Because you shone His light around
Earth is a sweeter place … by far
Because you were … a guiding star!

Angelic soul

Saw an angel … sleeping …  today
Soft white hair …  in a pillow lay
Curled up snug … no cares … no woes
Why dementia … only heaven knows
No worry lines … in her sweet face
Stress relieved … by God’s grace
Someone’s … Mom … someone’s … friend
Someone’s … Auntie … someone’s … kin
Bidding time … nowhere special to be
A precious sight … we all agree
Kindness is free … treat her … tenderly
Paramedics came … to take her home
Back to … where they … care for her
Picked up  gently … not a stir
Smiles … all around … a sigh or two
Moment of sweetness … in a hectic  day
Angelic soul … sent our way.

My head reminds

I remember … yesterday
Wanting to … go away
Dad … said … you can’t
Mom … said … let her go
Always … had my back
Always … saw my heart
Always … knew my way
From … the very start
Gave me … latitude
Gave me … peace of mind
Courage … honor … love
Compassion … for mankind
Her … empathy was striking
Cared for other … souls
Taught me … to be kind
My heart … my head reminds
My memories … rewind
To miss her can’t be wrong
Her time on earth … gone
Mentor … friend … my Momma
I won’t … let her go!

Momma bear

Mirror … mirror on the wall … who’s the image standing tall
Watching over fragile minds … always gentle … always kind
Caring for … vulnerable souls … fidgeting… out of control
Endless walking halls … giving a nudge … when memory stalls
Scrambling to tidy a room … when occupant is moody ‘n gloom
Who matches socks ‘n shoes … ties laces … no I.O.U.’s
Cleans tables … floors … removes debris from corridors
Smiles on a rainy day … comforts … chases blues away
Gives dignity … a helping hand … changes thoughts … no reprimand
Lifts spirits … a warm embrace … compassion … commonplace
Mirror … mirror … you know it’s true … the Alz team’s many not few
My mind rests easy … in their care … my Mom’s a cub … the image:
Momma bear!

validation

A new word … for me
Validate … it’s easy you see
A smile … a word … a touch
Validate … it means so much
Your word salad … confusing
Can’t get a meaning … out
Validate … no need to shout
Noises confuse the fragile mind
Validate … while there’s time
Wandering … looking for an out
Validate … it’s there … about
Food looks different … taste too
Validate … to get you through
A small gesture … hard to swallow
Like a fib-let … brings me sorrow
But you’re better for it … I see
Validate … lessens heartache
For you … and me.

Mom’s nursery

Walking into Mom’s room I see
A nursery … Mary, Timotheus and
Who are you?  Mom … who’s the
new kid?  She smiles (babysitting awhile)
Seems (I heard) her adult passed away
Figures … Mom invited her to stay
Through the years, kindness was
Never a weakness … as I recall
Mom … always … gave … all
Her heart always gave what she had
No stumbling blocks … was glad
To help another … along the way
And so it is today … the new kid
Is welcomed … to play!

Happy land

Civil words … kind smiles … what happened then … to now
Where’d your … happy go … hidden deep? Buried low?
Why leave you sad ‘n blue? … why’d they go …. without you?
The answers to these questions asked … why’s happy gone
And doesn’t … last … happy land … comes from the heart
The soul … shines through … smiles impart
Chases … Alzheimer’s blues … away
Like moon ‘n stars … brighten a day!

Sleepy Time

Shrugging kindness … sanity fled
Confusion’s angry … signal misread
Scales tipped … to Lady Blue
Ultimately … sundowner’s … preview
Needs time … pillow her head
Needs space … confusion unwed
Naps … sleepy time’s … through
Momma’s … sweet … face
With smiles … ensue!

Serendipity

Of new babies … Mom wound say
A piece of humanity … born today
Many kids … cared for … plus me
Housewife … mother … serendipity
Surely … there were hills to climb
Surely… time passed … too fast
Unselfish ways … your fate
Unkindness always had to wait
Always … said a prayer for me
Unpleasantness ‘n fear … did flee
And I for her … my whole life thru
Since leaving home … a long adieu
My heart … kept … running … back
Never … could I tarry … long
I grew stronger … years went by
Less time spent … asking why
Life catches you … by the hand
Throws you out … when unplanned
But thank you Jesus … right on time
Thru tears and grief … perfect … prime
I get to spend … time with Mother
A blessing for me … like no other!
