Sufferin’ Succotash

Redirecting … your thoughts
Usually helps … go for a walk
Saunter … meander ’n squawk
Many delusions … soar thru
Hallucinations … début
Worry ‘n fret … at bay
Sufferin succotash … sadness away
Relax … five minutes … you see
In Texas … a change … guarantee!

Zapped

Haunting dreams … hopes in arrears
Waves of whispers … taunt living souls
Sleepless nights … demand attention
Casting minds … astray … detention
Delusional thoughts … hallucinations
Priceless moments … zapped forever
Expect … unexpected … encore.

Polka Dots

Talk to … the wall … you say
Hurry Sis … don’t delay
I’m thinking … you’re in … disarray
I hear nothing  … no way
Hallucinations … call the shots
Hit ‘n  miss  … polka dots
You’re adamant … this I know
I’m holding on … won’t let you go
Circuits … tangles … webs
Clusters … bred … in your head
Hard … to be … in your realm
Lady Blue’s … at the helm
I want to say … I hear … I do
But … can’t  …  just watching you.

Nevermore – Forevermore

Nevermore …sleep in slumber …hallucinations wild in number
Nevermore … walk alone … forgetful … danger zones
Nevermore … use a phone … without a caring chaperone
Nevermore … walk straight …without a topsy-turvy gait
Nevermore … find what’s lost … memories forever crossed
Nevermore … wash clothes … might as well use a garden hose
Forevermore …friendships gain… others share Alzheimer’s stain
Forevermore …look for faces … other than usual places
Forevermore …need a change …when normal days seem strange
Forevermore …find a way … keep life’s changes …at …bay!

You Hit An Angel

Someone’s drowning …you say
Loved ones …you know
You see … hear …loud ‘n  clear
Hallucinations …on the go
Calming voices …try …to help
Can’t get through … your daze
All worked up …you swing
Hit an angel …my dismay
Your agitation …comes and goes
You’re sorry … compassion shows
It’s … the way …  it goes
No meanness …meant …I know!

Chasing The Blues Away

Helpless … the  word today
You CHANGE  …so quickly
No …hip hooray
Tossing   Alzheimer’s
To Timbuktu …want to!
Maybe   …walk the dogs
Yeah! With others who
Share … the  cause
Yeah! That’s what I’m
Going to do …for YOU!
Actually … for me too
I hate what it’s doing to you
Something I’d rather see
NO MORE CONFUSION
ON OUR FAMILY TREE
So …I’ll put my heartache
To work …walk for sure
So RESEARCH CAN
FIND A CURE
September 14th …the day
We’re chasing THE BLUES
AWAY!

Escalating

Hard on the nerves …escalating
No way to conserve … energy
Obsessed with …delusions
Hallucinations …rampant
Wiped  out …totally
Out of … control.

There are few distractions that help when Mother starts  pacing, worrying, delusional, hallucinations all at the same time.   Once she’s in a full-blown episode, just have to ride it out, so to speak.   Calling a sibling to talk to her  early in the episode   sometimes  helps.   Another term in the medical community noticed in older persons is sun downers.    I notice this behavior more  in the evenings, or when she’s extremely tired.

A Safe Place

To poke ‘n peek ‘n probe
A safe place
To tuck away your STUFF
A safe place
To feel warm and  cozy
A safe place
To obsess and hallucinate
A safe place
To soar delusional  skies
A safe place
To covet all your own
A safe place
To be in disarray
A safe place
A little bit …of  home.
A  SAFE PLACE.

It’s been almost a year and a half since Mom came to our home.   Few days go by that she doesn’t talk about HER HOME (meaning N.Y.) but now she says (HER ROOM), THAT’S PROGRESS!  A LITTLE BIT OF HOME!

Sandman

Having … hallucinations
People …all around
Making …accusations
You’re wearing a frown
Lady Blue’s come to play
She’s … at the helm
She’s … all-encompassing
This is her … realm
Eventually …you’re tired
Sandman …heavy eyes
Sleep and slumber …follow
In the pits of Alzheimer’s hollow.

Caring Is Sharing – HALLUCINATION

Definition of hallucination:

1. False sense perception:    the perception of  somebody or something that is not really there, which is often a symptom of psychiatric disorder or a response to some drugs.

2. Something imagined:    something that somebody imagines seeing, hearing, or otherwise sensing when it is not present or actually occurring at the time (often used in the plural).

We   deal with this issue EVERY DAY.  I say the Angels are singing to you mom, and she laughs. When  she  insists someone  is singing   and asks me  directly, I tell her I hear nothing.   Sometimes she pushes my buttons and I tell her the truth, that she’s hallucinating  and she gets angry…so…I’m back to the Angels theory!   For her,   what’s  forgotten…NEVER WAS.   What’s heard …IS!    CARING IS SHARING.
