A journey in time with Alzheimer's

Wonder … Away

Yellow …gold …flowers to share
Not wilting …beware
Pretty ’n bright … today
Never …fade into gray
How can that be …you ask of me
Not waiting …to hear what I say
You smile …then touch …their
Leaves of silk …your wonder
Has gone away!

A Life Line?

Fading …to the past
Escalations … worsen
Grievous … times
For …sure
No way … to know
How much …you’re aware
You’re tied …a life line?
Love‘s …despair!

Heart Strings/Tangents

Heart strings …tangents
Strung …thru …time
Tangents …break
Heart  …misaligned
Memories …weaken
Familiar ways …part
Faces …fade …from
A …loving heart.

Nostalgic

I’m …nostalgic …yesterday
Want it back …what’s wrong
With that …you had a good day
Now …it’s faded away
Added to …nothing …gone
Sighs … sadness …forlorn.

Wall Of Faces

Voices … trip your memory
You’ve misplaced …a   face
To the wall  …of pictures
A memory … to replace
Sometimes  …they … last
Sometimes …  fade away
Your … wall of pictures
Help … memories …  stay.

Mother’s wall of pictures  has been helpful when she draws blanks remembering people and faces.  Usually she sees the picture and knows who she’s talked to on the phone.     We are all fading to some degree from her memory.  If I say  the full name (first, middle, last) of her kids, she smiles, but I’m afraid Alzheimer’s is swallowing us up!

Memory Tree

Branches reach out … fading
Leaves … twigs …blow  away
Memories …tumbling  in the dust
Day after day  after day
The … memory tree
Eventually   … bare …destiny?

Invisible Mom

I see your hands, your face, your nose
I see your feet ‘n head ‘n toes
Even though these parts I see
You’re still invisible …to me
A shadow …of what has been
A thought …of years gone by
A notion …is there more?
No sense asking …why
Surely …the veil will lift
Surely …the lights go on
But …surely not …I see
As you …fade … from me.

CHOO CHOO …LADY BLUE!

The conductor …confusion
The trip to …abyss
The ticket …punched early
Wait …think about this!
Your thoughts … tangled
Faded memories …not clear
You didn’t order this, Mother dear
No one else going? You’d be alone!
One way ticket, forever postpone!
It’s not your choice
What’s happening to you
Let’s … wave the train
CHOO CHOO …LADY BLUE!

If we can pull an invisible cord for truckers to honk as they pass, maybe we can choo choo the Alzheimer’s train to KEEP ON GOING, DON’T STOP FOR MOTHER! I’m just thinking!

Hurtful Words

No need to use hurtful words
They bring me tears
Why say words you forgot
A life time ago….years.

I don’t understand why
You use them now
Unprovoked, no rhyme or reason
How does this happen, how?

I definitely try to ignore
Cursing words you say
You use them like a sailor
Each and every day.

I’m thinking the good stuff
Faded and went to a dump
And the bad stuff
Remained in a big lump.

I guess you have to use up the lump
I’m ready for it to be gone
Where’s my sweet, kind Momma
Will she be gone long?

Grab It!

Grab that memory
It’s fading away
Don’t let it go
My favorite!….today.

So many favorites have fled
They get tied up and tangled
Lost in the web
Fade away…never stay…dead.

I ask…do you remember?
Fighting words I know!
It just happened!
Mind over matter over mind…let it go!
