My head reminds

I remember … yesterday
Wanting to … go away
Dad … said … you can’t
Mom … said … let her go
Always … had my back
Always … saw my heart
Always … knew my way
From … the very start
Gave me … latitude
Gave me … peace of mind
Courage … honor … love
Compassion … for mankind
Her … empathy was striking
Cared for other … souls
Taught me … to be kind
My heart … my head reminds
My memories … rewind
To miss her can’t be wrong
Her time on earth … gone
Mentor … friend … my Momma
I won’t … let her go!

Momma bear

Mirror … mirror on the wall … who’s the image standing tall
Watching over fragile minds … always gentle … always kind
Caring for … vulnerable souls … fidgeting… out of control
Endless walking halls … giving a nudge … when memory stalls
Scrambling to tidy a room … when occupant is moody ‘n gloom
Who matches socks ‘n shoes … ties laces … no I.O.U.’s
Cleans tables … floors … removes debris from corridors
Smiles on a rainy day … comforts … chases blues away
Gives dignity … a helping hand … changes thoughts … no reprimand
Lifts spirits … a warm embrace … compassion … commonplace
Mirror … mirror … you know it’s true … the Alz team’s many not few
My mind rests easy … in their care … my Mom’s a cub … the image:
Momma bear!

Clemency

Seriously? … reclined!
Sleeping? … at this time!
Surely not … I call your name
Napping … boredom’s game
Evidently … meandering … late
Nurses … smile … corroborate
Long time night owl … history
Must sleep sometime … necessity
Have to give you … clemency
Or …  Lady Blue  visits … ultimately!

Angel Songs

Heartfelt days … watching … Mom ricochet
Down … Alzheimer’s path … light-years away
Can’t find … her way … back … to … now
Can’t deal … with whom … what or how
Can’t remember … names … faces
Memories askew … times … places
Angry … her mind … lets her down
Sad … lonely … frustration … abounds
Comforting … caregivers … around
Compassion’s free … silent … calm
God’s in control … whispering psalms
Ever so softly … into … her ears
Songs by angels … loved ones held dear
You hear that Sis … said with eyes wide open
Nodding in tears … my heart has spoken.

Bright Eyes

As we walk thru  halls  … you say
No bright eyes  here … today
Only sadness … dull eyes around
You’re serious … steadfast … frown
You’re right … those here and near
Have troubles … need nurses/aides
By their sides … to daily survive
I smile in my heart, and thankful too
Your compassion again … shines thru.

Compassion … You

He shuffles  around … head hanging down
No telling thoughts he wears with a frown
No  words …  as you pass in the hall
You’re  concerned … he’s not talking at all
It’s okay Mom, his business, not yours
Must leave him alone … be reassured
He is where he is …  to you it’s absurd
Doesn’t want to be … sad  … you say
As you turn … giving smiles away
You worry ‘n fret … ponder … stew
Compassion …empathy … you.

Wearing Compassion

Little tyke’s sleeping …you say …rocking beside her bed
She needs me to stay …while she pillows her head
No one will watch  …she could roll to the floor
You say …suspiciously looking …towards the door
I  definitely know you’re a  friend
This lady (tyke) … safe in your care, days on end
She smiles, you smile, not really knowing
Which direction …or time …each other is going
But none the less …caring is sharing
Mother …compassion you’re wearing!

Love Finds A Way

Evil visited
And left behind
Sorrow and sadness
For humankind.

Love finds a way
To keep our hearts
Soft and loving
Though ripped apart.

How to get through
The coming days
Forgiveness, compassion
LOVE FINDS A WAY.

A horrific massacre happened in Newtown, CT 12/14/12. My heart is heavy as is much of the country. No way to communicate with Mom about this. So I just pray. Thank you Jesus for holding her tight. sg
