A journey in time with Alzheimer's

It’s pretend

Wonders of wonders … you want one too?
Sarah’s baby doll … blond hair will do!
Everyone needs … a cuddle … a hug
Something … to watch over … love
Now mind you … says she … it’s pretend
But  mine … alone … I’ll not … lend

She’ll swaddle … protect … coo ‘n adore
No one wants loneliness … furthermore
When Alzheimer’s storms … blow ‘n rain
Sarah ‘n friend … waltz memory lane.

Magic ingredients

Enjoying … a walk … to the garden
You’re pondering … (what’s new)
Where are my kids … you bray
Here I am … (I play)
Frantic … you turn around
To your room … mission bound
Baby dolls … waiting (it’s true)
Can’t move … (what else can they do!)
You cradle them … love’s song
They make you smile … not wrong
Calmness … serenity … blending of two
Magic ingredients … subdues … Lady-blue.

Lost ‘n found

Received a call … Mom’s blue
Dolls … lost … not new
I listen … attentively
Making sense … ultimately
You miss your … kids 1-2-3
Not us … your baby … dolls
Frustrated … you can’t see
Frantically buzzing … busy bee
Wide-eyed … they’re in sight
Can’t move … left or right
Waiting … (shall I say) patiently
For you to see them … directly
Finally, nurse Charla saves the day
Babies found … sweet bouquets!

Sweetly blow

Clearly … baby dolls …. fill a void
Caring for them … as … a child
Gentleness … tenderness
Keeps you calm … versus wild
Yesterday’s faces … memories
Seem to have … faded away

At least … from … outward signs
Silence … forgetting … portrayed
We’re talking about … baby dolls
I say … let’s find … your kid
Then out of the blue … you expound
(You have five … heaven forbid)
Sharon … Sis … Bill … Meta … David
Children you birthed … long ago
You reeled off their names quickly
(Smiled … raised your eyes)
Whispers of time … sweetly blow.

I call her ” Momma”

I call her Momma … she doesn’t mind anymore
There was a time she’d say … that’s childish
Take the door … but I am your child
My heart … yearns … for more
Out of soothing thoughts … empty store
Time passes through … yesterdays door
Linked here … to always … forevermore
Hugs through time … dear Mother
A sweetheart … like no other.

Unprovoked

No harm provoked the yell
Just wanting … to be heard
Rushing feet …hurry
To save ..what? …no wrong
Why yell …no harm befalls
To scurry feet …along
All because …just all
Because …it’s quiet
Too …calm.

I’ll be chatting/listening to Mother and the above occurs. Tickles me a bit, so typical of kids!

Kindness …passed on

Shopping   for  groceries …I see
A child’s innocence …following me
You’re kind to others …you pause …they pass
Please  ‘n thank-you …hope kindness …lasts
Never … works out …that way
Out the door …it  … goes away
Lady Blue …hates help …from me
Suspicious …mean …   hostility.

Caregiver woes

Woe is me …feeling down
Confusion’s child …hanging around
Lady Blue …in the dumps
Hitting me with emotional lumps
Lumps …bumps …bruises galore
Heaven knows …I don’t need …anymore
There’s more hurt in words said …or not
Than ever could be from a hit or a swat
Truth be known …tells the story
One must callous …it’s the territory!

When I’m down and need lifting up, I call my sister Sharon Eileen, she makes me laugh and gives me advice. We’re all new to caring for our Alzheimer’s Mom, it’s a joint effort at any given time. Thanks Sharon, You inspire me!

Hide ‘n Seek

Reality’s child …hide ‘n seek
Confusion …strong …reality …weak
Running fast …from confusion’s door
No safe haven …forever more
Come child …follow me
Says confusion …to reality.

Thinking For Two

Been … awhile
Since I’ve had a child
To … worry about
When things …go wild
You meander around
I see …find
You’re in my sights
Now …can unwind
As long as you’re
In … my sights
The Momma in me
Says …things are right!
