I’m up …can’t sleep …phone rings ….Mom fell …repeat
Ambulance on the way … a voice …calmly relays
Rushing to dress … mind’s racing … ahead …enough said
Oops … shoes and socks …boots? Overcast … dreary today!
Sheila Marie …keep it together …Dad would say …rainy weather
Funny thoughts through my head …he’s been long ago …dead!
Nostalgia? Seriously? Now? Today? Mind’s in …disarray!
Looking down at her pale face …Hi Honey my thoughts embrace
That you Sis? Yep, here I am … definitely … meeting unplanned
Following ambulance was a joke … fantasy mind stoked
Need wings …fly thru the air … focus … yellow lines … stare
Forty miles … think ’n stew … what’s happening to you
Counting raindrops on the glass …speeding … really fast
Praying … Lord … me and you …always …you see me through
In emergency … keeping you in bed … me … an aching head
Short term memory … rules the day … logic runs away
X-rays … labs … cleared… yeah … you dodged … a bullet today
Numbing medicine … injected … laceration closed … enough said
After released and driving away … “I’m hungry” you say
Milkshake in hand, cookie the other … you’re smiling … Mother!

Mom’s laceration on the back of her head is healing nicely. This poem has been hanging around since then, time to let it go!
