Open a puzzle box, find all the pieces
All have a purpose and place
But the Alzheimer’s brain doesn’t see it that way
It’s fair game, as long as you don’t try to play.
Excuse me, that piece is a corner
It’s rounded and colored just right
But trying to interlock it with another
Won’t fit if I tried half the night.
What works in the puzzle yesterday
Doesn’t fit in the same spot today
Maybe it’s the angle she’s looking
Or… I’m not thinking her way.
So I call on another to help me
Sort out this puzzle she’s in
Hopefully that will solve her dilemma
But, atlas… it’s her norm from within.
Sadly… I play the game her way
Reality does not have a spot
Her puzzle will never look right to me
Whether I play it, or not.
